My Current LOST Theory

Lost Cast

So I’ve been doing a lot of digging around in old Lost episodes, along with repeat viewings up the current first three episodes of this final season.  I think I’ve nailed it!

Jacob (or some being) is tasked to gather up a group or so of people whenever human civilization is impending doom.  Sort of how Noah’s Ark was to animals, the island is to the human civilization.

For example, when the Egyptian civilization was beginning to crumble - Jacob took their most advance people (Richard…?) to the island in order to spare them for future use and knowledge.  I think the same thing happened with Dogen, from a Japanese fallout.  Something major will happen in today’s world, and in preparation for this disaster (war or major event), Jacob has recruited a select group of people to spare as well (the Losties).  This explains why there are such diverse groups of people and leaders on the island, with different backgrounds and historical cultures.  Perhaps, from each group of spared humans - only one emerges as a true leader and is granted immortality - while the others simply die of old age at some point.

If my theory is correct, then in the current alternative timeline (beginning with the safe landing at LAX), there will be some sort of build up to the aforementioned major world event that will lead to the reason why the Losties needed to be spared and saved for good keeping.

Well, that’s my theory so far - and I think it’s the best I’ve thought up - can’t wait to find out if I’m correct or completely wrong.

** Edit ** Feb 15, 2010

Okay, so I’ve been reading more about Egyptian Mythology and how it might tie in with Lost.  My theory is evolving into something more related to King Tut.  I think that the Smoke Monster or Man in Black is King Tut or some Shaman of sorts from the King Tut era - like in ‘The Mummy’ movies.  Ugh, this show is driving me crazy.  Hopefully we’ll get more answers in tonight’s Locke-Centric episode, ‘The Substitute’.
